Manchester United to sign midfielder with 22 goal contributions in just 37 games if Frenkie de Jong rejects Manchester United move
Manchester United will pursue a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer if Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong opts against joining Manchester United, according to Givemesport.
Manchester United have monitored the 27 year old Lazio midfielder for a number of years and could finally land the Serbian international this summer.
Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri recently revealed that he is convinced Milinkovic-Savic ‘will not remain in Italy’ if he does leave the club in the upcoming transfer window.
The Serbian international midfielder is attracting interest from Manchester United after scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in just 37 Serie A games for Lazio this season.
According to FootballTransfers, Milinkovic-Savic has a €70 million (£59.3m) price tag.
Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke told Givemesport: I think he’s somebody who United will be pursuing to bring into that midfield, and he’s probably more attainable than a Frenkie de Jong right now.
“So, I think United will be trying to do something on this and trying to bring him to Old Trafford despite after all these years of speculation of him possibly moving there.”
Milinkovic-Savic could be the perfect replacement for Paul Pogba, who is leaving Manchester United at the end of June.
As per FBref, Milinkovic-Savic won 1.19 tackles, made 1.60 interceptions and pulled off 1.51 blocks per 90 minutes last season, bettering Pogba’s tallies of 0.87, 1.27 and 1.07, respectively.
