Premier League club looking to hijack Manchester United’s move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez
Manchester United are in the market for a striker this summer and has identified Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as a priority.
Recent reports have claimed Manchester United have submitted a bid of €105million bid for 22 year old Uruguayan striker.
Manchester United submitted a bid of €75 million (£64million) in cash through various instalments, along with performance-related add-ons worth around €20 million (£17million). The Red Devils also offered a player worth €10million (£8.6million), with the player believed to be Andreas Pereira.
However, the bid was reportedly rejected by Benfica.
According to The Times, Premier League rivals Liverpool are looking to hijack Manchester United’s move for Nunez.
The report adds that Liverpool want to sign the 22 year old forward as replacement for Sadio Mane who has been linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich.
Nunez scored home and away against Jurgen Klopp’s side in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Liverpool have now made him a transfer target this summer.
However, the report adds that Liverpool will not pursue the 22-year-old at any cost.
Nunez is widely expected to leave Benfica when the transfer window opens and the Portuguese side will hope to spark a bidding war for his signature.
Nunez has been one of Europe’s breakout stars of this season, scoring an astonishing 34 goals in 40 appearances.
