Manchester United look set to miss out on the signing of Joao Palhinha, according to reports from Portugal.

Manchester United were interested in a move for the 26 year old Sporting Lisbon after scouts from Manchester United watched him play eight times last season.

With Nemanja Matic set to leave at the end of June, Joao Palhinha was identified as the ideal defensive midfielder to replace the Serbian at Manchester United.

However, according to Portuguese media outlet Correio do Manha, Premier League side Wolves have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign Joao Palhinha.

The 26-year-old though looks set to become the latest Portuguese player to make the move to Molineux.

Correio do Manha suggest that Wolves are ironing out the finer details of the deal, with Bruno Lage’s side reportedly set to pay a fee of around £17m.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid star David Alaba has hailed former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick as world-class and also explained why the German struggled at Manchester United.
