Barcelona send new transfer message to Manchester United after rejecting offer for Frenkie de Jong
Manchester United had an offer of €70million for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong rejected by Barcelona.
The Spanish side are reportedly demanding a fee of at least €100million which Manchester United aren’t willing to pay.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has provided an update that will have implications on Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.
Despite rejecting Manchester United’s offer for De Jong, Laporta has admitted Barcelona will need to sell the Dutch midfielder to balance the books.
He told Barca TV: “If our economic situation requires the sale of an important player, we are ready for that.”
Barcelona are in a financial crisis with the Spanish club thought to be €1bn (£850m) in debt. Barcelona may have to offload a number of big names in order to comply with La Liga’s spending rules.
Senior Barcelona official Eduard Romeu recently stated that £426m (€500m) is needed to “save” the Spanish giants.
Barcelona have been unable to register free agents Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.
