Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has dropped Mike Phelan from the coaching staff, according to The Athletic.
The 59-year-old has had numerous spells in various capacities at Old Trafford, most recently re-joining as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s assistant in 2019.
The arrival of Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren as Erik ten Hag’s assistants means there will be a new-look coaching staff from next season.
Mike Phelan assisted Sir Alex Ferguson between 2008 and 2013, before being ousted following David Moyes’ appointment.
Phelan signed a new contract as assistant manager last summer so an exit will have to be negotiated.
He could stay at the club in a non-coaching role but that is yet to be decided.
