What Erik ten Hag told Frenkie de Jong that convinced him to make Man Utd U-turn

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong was initially not convinced about joining Manchester United this summer.

The Dutch midfielder, who played under Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax, didn’t see joining Manchester United this summer as a right move.

However, the midfielder is now open to joining Manchester United after holding talks with Erik ten Hag.

According to The Express, Manchester United boss Ten Hag reminded De Jong of the good times the two shared together at Ajax, where the maestro played arguably the best football of his career.

De Jong believes he hasn’t been used properly at Barcelona since joining from Ajax in 2019 and Ten Hag promised the midfielder he would be played in his best role at Manchester United.

Ten Hag also promised the Netherlands international that he would build the Manchester United team around him.

Ten Hag knows how to get the best from his ex-player and that is currently central to his attempts to convince De Jong that United is the right move at this stage of his career.
