Premier League rivals Arsenal are ready to smash their transfer record in order to beat Manchester United to RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been promised funds to strengthen his attack following Alexandre Lacazette’s departure.

According to the Independent via Metro, German side RB Leipzig have set a price of £100million for the 24 year old Christopher Nkunku.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly willing to pay £100million to sign Christopher Nkunku this summer.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Manchester United are all interested in signing the France international who had an impressive season for RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman scored 35 times and provided 16 assists in 50 matches for Leipzig last season.

Former interim Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick recommended the forward to the Red Devils before leaving the club at the end of last season and the board took his advice seriously by making discreet enquiries to the German club, according to Metro.

However, Manchester United are reportedly unlikely to spend £100million on Christopher Nkunku this summer.

Manchester United’s transfer budget is reportedly £120million (without player sales) according to the report, which is the reason for the club’s failure to sign Darwin Nunez.

Manchester United instead see signing a midfielder as a priority, so the major purchase this summer will instead be Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

RB Leipzig are desperate to keep Christopher Nkunku for at least another season and have placed a pricetag of £100million on the forward.

RB Leipzig are trying to convince Nkunku that his career would be best served by another season in Germany and they’re willing to hand him a new contract with a release clause to satisfy his ambition to move.

Despite RB Leipzig’s efforts to keep him for another year, Nkunku has refused to rule out the prospect of leaving RB Leipzig this summer amid ongoing links connecting him with a move to Manchester United.

Nkunku said: “I don’t close any doors. Everything is possible in football.

“It’s flattering to have the biggest clubs in the world interested in me. But it’s also flattering that Leipzig is doing everything to keep me. We are in June, and I am focused on this gathering.”
