Manchester United have confirmed when Erik ten Hag will take charge of his first game as Manchester United boss at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s first home game as Manchester United boss will be against Spanish side Rayo Vallecano in a pre-season friendly.
La Liga side Rayo Vallecano will travel to Manchester on Sunday July 31 for the clash, which promises to be a huge occasion.
Rayo Vallecano, who are from Madrid, finished 12th in LaLiga last season and own two former Manchester United players in Radamel Falcao and Bebe.
The game will conclude Manchester United’s pre-season preparations prior to the start of the 2022-23 Premier League season which kicks off on August 6.
Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United side will tour Thailand and Australia this summer before heading to Oslo for a game against Atletico Madrid in the Norway capital before returning home for the fixture against Rayo Vallecano.
A statement from Manchester United read: “Manchester United will play a pre-season friendly against Spanish side Rayo Vallecano in what will be Erik ten Hag’s first match at Old Trafford.
“The match, to be held on Sunday 31 July, with kick-off at 16:00 BST, will provide a final warm-up for Ten Hag’s squad before the start of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
“Coming a day after the first team take on Atletico Madrid in Oslo, the home match against Rayo Vallecano will ensure that Ten Hag is able to provide game-time to his whole squad in the crucial final week of pre-season.”
Manchester United’s football director, John Murtough said: “Pre-season is all about preparation and this is a great opportunity for those squad members who may not have featured in some of our earlier Tour and pre-season matches to get valuable minutes on the pitch – and where better to do this than Old Trafford?
“This will be the new manager’s first match at Old Trafford, and I am sure the fans will provide him with a warm welcome.”
Manchester United’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche said: “We are delighted to be able to offer fans the opportunity to share in the experience of Erik Ten Hag’s first match in the dugout at Old Trafford.
“As well as the chance to see some of the club’s up-and-coming stars, fans purchasing tickets for this match will also be contributing towards a fantastic cause, with the club donating 10 percent of profits from the game to Manchester United Foundation and its work within the community.”
Erik ten Hag has already been busy compiling a list of potential transfer targets for the summer window.
Some of the names on his transfer shortlist include Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
