The Athletic has confirmed Manchester United have offered a deal to Denmark international playmaker Christian Eriksen.
The 30 year old playmaker is available to sign on a free transfer as his Brentford contract expires on June 30.
Christian Eriksen made a remarkable return to football in January after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last June.
Eriksen, who was an Inter Milan player at the time, had his contract as players are prohibited from playing in Italy with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator due to local health regulations.
Christian Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term deal until the end of the season in January and impressed for Thomas Frank’s side, scoring once and providing 4 assists in 11 games.
Brentford won seven out of the 11 matches in which Eriksen featured, meaning they secured safety a couple of weeks before the season ended.
Signing Barcelona midfielder and Dutch international midfielder Frenkie de Jong remains Manchester United’s top midfield priority.
However, with Barcelona holding out for €100million, Manchester United have now made the move to sign Christian Eriksen, who is available for free.
Manchester United have now offered Christian Eriksen a contract and the 30 year old midfielder has admitted he is considering the offer.
Eriksen, speaking to Viaplay, said: “I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision.
“I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”
Manchester United can only offer Eriksen Europa League football next season after the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of Eriksen and invited the player to train with Ajax before joining Brentford in January after his Inter Milan contract was cancelled.
Manchester United will be hoping the good relationship between Christian Eriksen and Ten Hag will convince the playmaker to join Manchester United.
Eriksen is also considering an offer from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who can offer him Champions League football next season.
