Outgoing Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba complained Manchester United offered him nothing despite two contract offers worth £300,000-a-week, a new documentary on the player has revealed.
Man Utd have confirmed Pogba will leave the club as a free agent this summer when his contract expires at the end of June.
The ‘Pogmentary’, released on Friday, reveals that Manchester United twice offered Pogba new deals in excess of the existing £290,000-a-week terms.
The France international midfielder was unhappy with the offer from the club and wanted more.
As reported by The Athletic, a clearly upset Pogba, in a Rolls Royce while on holiday in the United States in the summer of 2021, responded to his late agent Mino Raiola in a telephone conversation by describing the offer from Manchester United as nothing.
“Paul, you are in a situation which is very particular,” Raiola tells him. “You have no idea. You have no idea.”
“Did Manchester (United) make a second offer?” Pogba asks.
“Yes. They absolutely want you to stay. For me, the offer doesn’t reflect that. I told them, ‘If you want him to stay, don’t make that offer’. I will make them understand that if they really want you to stay and they want to build a project around you, this time they have to act differently and put the money on the table.”
“They’re bluffing,” Pogba says. “How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen that.”
The documentary also revealed another telephone conversation between Pogba and his late agent Raiola.
“What is the best for you? What is the best for your family, for your career? What is the best economically? What is the best for your brand?” Raiola asks him.
“We must try to make you feel as good as when you are with the French national team,” the agent says. “You’re different with them. You understand? You’re another Pogba with the Manchester United team. It’s not normal.
“With the France team, you’re the real Pogba, the Pogba of Juventus, the Pogba that everyone loves. With Manchester, there’s something blocking you.”
From Pogmentary documentary as revealed by The Athletic, both Pogba and his late agent Raiola indicate the midfielder would have been open to signing a new contract with United if United had made the right offer at the right time.
Pogba felt undervalued by Manchester United’s contract offer as he leaves the club after six years following his then world record transfer from Juventus.
Pogba also revealed in the documentary that he would make Manchester United regret not offering him the ideal contract.
“My thought process is to show Manchester that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract,” Pogba says. “And to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract.”
