French champions PSG are reportedly ready to splash the cash and hijack a key Manchester United target.

According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes via The Hard Tackle, PSG are ready to beat Manchester United to the signing of Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing the Spain international centre-back.

PSG reportedly believes Torres will give them the defensive balance they lack to win the Champions League.

Manchester United are also in the market for a centre-back after conceding 57 Premier League goals last season.

Manchester United could lose three defenders this summer, with Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones all facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag believes the ability of Torres to bring the ball out from the back will add another impetus to Manchester United’s play in the left channel.

Torres is a well-rounded player who is not just good at reading the game but also excellent with the ball at his feet.

He epitomises the qualities expected from a modern-day centre-back and will be an asset for whichever club he represents next season.

Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed Torres and Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber will be happy to join Manchester United this summer.

Speaking to The United Stand, Fabrizio Romano said: “Both players [Pau Torres & Timber] would be happy to join [Manchester United].”

Fabrizio Romano then added: “I see Pau Torres playing in the Premier League next season because he wants the move and has good chances to move.

“Timber is waiting for Manchester United to update him on the situation with Ajax.”

Torres insists he’s calm about his future despite interest from Manchester United.

He said: ”I have the peace of mind of being where they want me, where I have a valid contract and a renewal offer.

“The future will tell what happens but I am very calm, I do not look further and it is time to disconnect.

“It has been two years very good at Villarreal, we have competed with the best at European level which is what every player wants.

“And if, in addition, you do it in your town’s team, it’s bigger.”
