Liverpool legend Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to hijack another Manchester United target.
Liverpool beat Manchester United to the signing of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica and Jose Enrique wants his former side to beat Manchester United to the signing of Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen will become a free agent when his short-term contract at Brentford expires on 30th June, and the attacking midfielder has been linked with various Premier League clubs.
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Brentford are all interested in signing the 30 year old Eriksen.
“Another interesting player that could be our solution to our midfield and spending nothing because he [Eriksen] is a free agent,” Jose Enrique said on his Instagram story.
“He is a short-term solution but then we can wait for [Jude] Bellingham next season. He will play if he deserves to play like everyone else.
“Eriksen is a top player and I believe he can compete for a starting spot in our XI. The season is very long.
“He is that kind of player, like Thiago, but maybe a little bit more offensive. But Thiago is our magician.”
According to reports, Liverpool would not be signing any more players after the purchase of Calvin Ramsay, with almost all their transfer budget spent on striker Darwin Nunez.
But with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp interested in adding another midfielder to his squad, Liverpool could make a move for Eriksen, with the playmaker available on a free transfer.
While Liverpool are already rounding up their transfer business for the summer, Manchester United are yet to sign a player this summer.
New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants the club to sign the players needed before the start of pre-season later this month.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville is worried signing players late in the transfer window will only make it difficult for Ten Hag.
“I know early in the window but it’s worrying that United are struggling to get business done,” Neville tweeted.
“The others seem set and ready yet United can’t get moving.
“ETH (Erik ten Hag) needs his group together asap to mould them. Bringing them in late will only make it harder for him! [Fingers crossed] it happens soon!”
