Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda has revealed to Sky Sports that Manchester United offered more salary to Darwin Nunez than Liverpool.

Liverpool beat Manchester United to the transfer of Darwin Nunez for an initial €75million with €25million in potential add-ons.

According to The Times, Liverpool will pay Nunez about €50million over his six year contract, meaning Nunez is expected to earn around €160 000 every week.

Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda claims Manchester United offered more to the Uruguay international striker but he preferred the move to Liverpool as he wanted Champions League football.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda said: “Manchester United’s offer was bigger than Liverpool’s.

“However, the project of Liverpool playing in the Champions League was very decisive for Darwin Nunez.

“He is a ‘modern football striker’ — like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe — players who don’t simply concentrate on scoring goal.

“They concentrate on helping the team and making sure that the entire team plays properly. That is why we’re speaking about €100 million.”

Nunez has already explained his decision to pick Liverpool over Manchester United.

According to Nunez, he chose Liverpool because he feels Liverpool’s style of play suits him perfectly.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, he said as per Metro: “It’s a pleasure to be here in Liverpool and I’m very happy to be a part of this great club.

“I’ve played against Liverpool and I’ve seen them in lots of games in the Champions League, and it’s my style of play.

“There are some great players here and I think it’s going to suit my style of play here.

“As I say, I’ve watched quite a lot and it’s a very big club and I hope I can give everything that I’ve got in order to help the team.”

Darwin Nunez continued: “When I arrived at the training ground, I was really surprised to see the set-up and the structure and all the trophies here.

“You can then imagine yourself winning more trophies and then later on when you come here again and see the trophies on display, you can say, ‘Look, I was a part of that, I was there at that time, winning trophies.’

“That’s one of the reasons why I came here to Liverpool – to win trophies and titles. I want to win a lot of trophies at Liverpool.”

Darwin Nunez scored 34 times in 41 appearances for Benfica last season.
