Manchester United are reportedly confident of signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong with an improved offer.
Manchester United submitted a first offer of €60million plus add-ons for the Holland international midfielder which was rejected by Barcelona.
Barcelona instead demanded for an offer of €100million for the transfer of De Jong.
According to The Guardian, Manchester United are now confident of signing De Jong with an improved offer of €70million plus add-ons.
Barcelona had hoped there will be a bidding war for De Jong which will increase his transfer fee but Manchester United are the only club interested in signing the midfielder.
Manchester United are confident that Barcelona’s financial crisis means they will almost certainly be forced to sell De Jong to strengthen their squad.
With Paul Pogba’s Manchester United departure having been confirmed earlier this month, new United manager Erik ten Hag has made signing De Jong a priority this summer.
The pair worked together at Ajax, before De Jong joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019.
De Jong, initially, wasn’t interested in a move to Old Trafford, but the presence of Ten Hag has altered his stance, even if his preference is to remain at Barcelona.
Ten Hag also retains interest in signing Ajax forward Antony, though the winger is one of a few forwards under consideration.
Manchester United are making progress in the bid to sign winger Antony from Ajax, according to Goal.
The representatives of the Brazilian winger have already held talks with Manchester United.
Manchester United are confident of concluding the deal for the Brazilian due to the club’s good relationship with Ajax.
Antony joined Ajax from Sao Paulo in 2020 and quickly became a star player for the Amsterdam club.
Former Ajax striker Patrick Kluivert is a huge fan of the Brazilian.
Kluivert said: “Antony is a real Ajax attacker. His ball technique, the speed, the brutality in his often decisive actions: that’s how we like to see it in Amsterdam.
“Whether there are two or three men in his back, he demands the ball and is immediately threatening. He will never hide.
“I think it will not be long before Antony will make the step to a foreign top club.”
