Manchester United are closing in on our first major signing of the summer with the club now set to complete the signing of Ajax star Antony.

Manchester United officials have travelled to Amsterdam to get a deal for the Brazilian over the line, according to The Sun.

Antony, 22, is one of Erik ten Hag’s key transfer targets for the summer as the Dutchman seeks to make United competitive again at the top end of the Premier League.

Antony had an outstanding last season with 12 goals and creating ten assists in 33 games in all competitions for the Dutch title winners.

Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur had tried to hijack Manchester United’s deal for the 22 year old Brazilian after offering Bergwijn plus cash for Antony.

Bergwijn is a transfer target for Ajax as they seek to sign a replacement for Antony this summer.

Antony will excited to reunite with Ten Hag at Manchester United after his Instagram message to the Dutch tactician when he left for Manchester United.

In a farewell message to Ten Hag after his departure from Ajax, Antony posted on social media: “I want to thank you for everything you taught me.

“Know that I will always stand with you if you need me.”

Manchester United now want to quickly complete the deal for Antony after CEO Richard Arnold went to a pub in Cheshire on Saturday to placate a group of fans who were ready to march on his house to voice their concerns.

Arnold told the aggrieved fans that the money is there for a rebuild, with around £200m believed to be available to Ten Hag and transfer chief John Murtough.

Arnold said: “As a club we’re doing everything possible to get the deal done, I’ve been up for days trying to get it done.

“The money is there but there’s things standing in our way which I can’t say.”

Manchester United are still pushing for the signing of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and free agent Christian Eriksen.

The Red Devils have reportedly had an offer for Porto striker Evanilson rejected while Jurrien Timber has turned down a move to Manchester United after warning from Holland boss and former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.
