Manchester United have been heavily linked with RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku this summer.
The 24 year old France international forward hit 35 goals and registered 19 assists across 50 appearances last season to see his stock soar.
Despite interest from Manchester United, Nkunku has now extended his contract with RB Leipzig.
Nkunku has committed his immediate future to RB Leipzig by signing a contract until 2026.
His previous contract with RB Leipzig was due to expire in the summer of 2024.
Explaining his decision to the club’s official website, Nkunku has said: “I’m pleased to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt.
“After our great achievement in winning the DFB-Pokal, it remained clear that my story here isn’t over yet – we want more!
“I was really impressed with the club’s efforts to keep me, so a big thanks goes to those responsible for the trust in me and especially to Oliver Mintzlaff, with whom I was always in close contact.
“RB Leipzig have made a name for themselves on the international stage in recent years and have shown time and again that we can compete for titles. We want to build on that going forward and go one step further.”
Leipzig finished fourth in the Bundesliga and will be playing in next season’s Champions League group stage. They also reached the Europa League semifinals.
According to reports, Nkunku’s new contract with RB Leipzig has a release clause which can be triggered in the summer of 2023.
The release clause in Nkunku’s contract is reportedly around £51million.
Leipzig’s technical director Christopher Vivell added: “There are only a few players who can match the speed, flair and mentality that Christo possesses.
“In addition to that comes his incredible goal involvements this season.
“Christo has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s best players at Leipzig and has also become a regular with the France national team.
“This success story is something that we want to continue writing together.”
