Manchester United’s hopes of signing Christian Eriksen could be boosted if the Red Devils complete a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong by the end of the month.
Manchester United have offered Eriksen a two-year contract to join the club but face competition from Brentford.
Eriksen is currently on holiday and is expected to make a decision on his future by the end of the month.
Eriksen is said to be ‘attracted’ by the prospect of playing alongside De Jong at Manchester United.
Should Manchester United seal a move for De Jong this week when Eriksen is expected to make a decision on his future, the Denmark international midfielder will join Manchester United.
Manchester United are confident of completing the transfer of De Jong by Thursday.
Barcelona are also keen on concluding the sale of De Jong before Thursday when they are expected to close their accounts for the year.
Manchester United have been fully focused on signing De Jong, such is Erik ten Hag’s determination to sign the midfielder.
The Red Devils have so far been unable to sign players this summer with the club focused on signing De Jong.
Ten Hag feels that De Jong is so vital to how he wants to play at Old Trafford that it’s worth prioritising a deal for the midfielder and other deals will fall into place once he’s through the door.
Signing De Jong, would convince Eriksen to join Manchester United as the Dane feels De Jong is a player that is on the same wavelength as he is.
Several signings are expected to follow after Manchester United seal the transfer of De Jong.
Ajax forward Antony is expected to complete a move to Manchester United after informing the Dutch club he wants to reunite with Ten Hag at Manchester United.
Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, who was named Ajax Player of the Year, is also a top target for Manchester United.
