Premier League rivals Arsenal are keen on signing Ajax and Argentina star Lisandro Martinez this summer.

The 24 year old centre-back, who was named Ajax Player of the Year, is also a transfer target for Manchester United.

Martinez is valued at around £43million by Ajax and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen on signing the Argentine centre-back.

Manchester United switched attention to Martinez after Jurrien Timber opted to stay at Ajax instead of joining Manchester United this summer.

According to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Arsenal have made a second offer to Ajax for defender Lisandro Martinez.

Having had an initial bid of €25 million rejected, the Gunners have now proposed a package worth €40 million.

Despite interest in signing Martinez, Manchester United are yet to submit an offer for the 24 year old defender.

The Red Devils are currently focusing efforts on a deal to sign Frankie de Jong from Barcelona.

Meanwhile, according to The Mirror, Ajax have told Manchester United that the Red Devils must choose between signing Antony or Martinez this summer.

Ajax are reportedly reluctant to allow Erik ten Hag’s plan to rebuild Manchester United lead to a mass exodus of the players he left behind in Amsterdam.

Ajax have already lost Ryan Gravenberch to German champions Bayern Munich for £16.6million.

Their top goalscorer last season Sebastian Haller is set to join Borussia Dortmund for £30million.

Bayern Munich also snapped up Noussair Mazraoui on a free transfer and Ajax do not want to hand new coach Alfred Schreuder a squad that has been stripped bare.

Ajax are resigned to losing either Martinez or Antony following Timber’s decision to stay put – but not both.

Only a huge offer from Manchester United can convince Ajax to sell both players to Manchester United this summer.

The 24 year old centre-back still has three years left on his Ajax contract.
