Barcelona wanted this Manchester United star in exchange for Frenkie de Jong
Manchester United reportedly rejected Barcelona’s attempt to land Harry Maguire as part of a deal to bring Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford, according to The Sun.
Barcelona are interested in signing Maguire and asked for the Manchester United captain to be included as part of the deal for De Jong.
But United were not willing to part with the £80 million defender – with new boss Erik Ten Hag keen to work with him.
Instead, De Jong will join Manchester United in a straight cash deal with Barcelona.
Maguire struggled last season but new Manchester United boss Ten Hag believes he can get the England international back to his best.
Ten Hag is confident Maguire struggled last season due to the set-up of the team and believes the Manchester United captain can still return to his best form.
Ten Hag wants to reunite with De Jong at Manchester United and still wants to keep Maguire at Manchester United.
The Red Devils are confident of completing the signing of De Jong before the end of the month.
Ten Hag is hopeful De Jong will be a Manchester United player when United embark on the tour of Thailand and Australia at the end of next week.
Manchester United are also hopeful of signing Christian Eriksen, who is currently deciding between the Red Devils and Brentford.
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend and co-owner of MLS side Inter Miami David Beckham offered Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo a mega-contract to dump Manchester United for MLS side Inter Miami this summer.
Beckham was keen on signing Ronaldo this summer to improve the Inter Miami brand as well as the team’s performances.
Despite the exciting offer from Inter Miami, Ronaldo snubbed David Beckham and his Inter Miami outfit in favour of remaining with Manchester United.
