Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes expects to see Cristiano Ronaldo back at pre-season training early next month as planned.

Reports have claimed recently that Ronaldo could leave Manchester United this summer but Bruno Fernandes insists the forward will be back for pre-season training on 4 July.

Fernandes told Portuguese outlet Record: “I spoke to him a few weeks ago – we’re both on vacation, no one bothers friends on vacation.

“I hope to meet him on the fourth to train there [at Manchester United ], I’m not expecting more than that.

“There is nothing more than that, but each one takes care of their future. I don’t believe that the club is willing to lose a player of the value of Cristiano.”

One destination that has been mooted for Ronaldo should he leave United is his first club Sporting Lisbon.

Fernandes, who is a fan of Sporting Lisbon, hopes Ronaldo returns to Sporting Lisbon when his time at Manchester United ends in future.

He continued: “It would be a great moment for the sportinguistas, almost everyone expects that; I would like that to happen.

“He has the ambition to continue playing for many years, we will see what he will decide – I hope – when his contract with United ends.

“But the ambition and dream of sportinguistas would be to see Ronaldo playing for Sporting.”

Ronaldo signed a two-year contract to return to Manchester United last summer, with the Red Devils paying Juventus an initial £12.9m plus a further £6.9m in add-ons.

He scored 24 goals in his first season back with the club – by far and away the Red Devils’ top scorer.

Meanwhile, newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have made an initial £8.6million offer, rising to £11m if certain performance related targets are met.

The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Brazilian club Flamengo but now has the option of returning to the Premier League with newly-promoted Fulham.

It is now up to Pereira to decide if he wants to join Fulham, have a crack at trying to impress new United boss Erik ten Hag or prioritise a permanent deal with Flamengo.
