Manchester United move for Tyrell Malacia hits major stumbling block. Here’s why
Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia has decided to switch agents midway through his proposed transfer to Manchester United, thus complicating the move.
Malacia is set to become Manchester United’s first signing this summer after the Red Devils reached an agreement with Feyenoord for the transfer of the 22 year old left-back.
However, talks between Manchester United and Tyrell Malacia have stalled after the left-back opted to change his agent midway through the transfer.
Malacia has been represented by HCM Sports Management, who also represent Frenkie de Jong.
However, Malacia has made clear he doesn’t want HCM to do this deal creating significant hurdles for United with regards to completing a deal.
Manchester United remain confident that Malacia will make a decision on who his agent will be soon and that the deal can be rubber-stamped in the coming days.
Importantly, the problems have not impacted on the agreement between Manchester United and Feyenoord.
Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen had even previously revealed that the Dutch club had agreed a deal with United for Malacia, but it may be as smooth as first anticipated now.
Arnesen told 1908.nl: “The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell. If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent.”
Malacia has made 136 appearances for Feyenoord since graduating from their academy and he has five senior caps for Holland.
Meanwhile, Malacia has reportedly told French club Lyon that he’s joining Manchester United.
Malacia was in talks to join Lyon before Manchester United hijacked the move after submitting a bid for the left-back.
The Feyenoord left-back was wanted by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag after impressing with his performances in the Eredivisie last season.
Lyon had been hoping to land the Netherlands international following his impressive performances for Feyenoord last season but have now lost Malacia to Manchester United.
Manchester United are going to pay around €15m plus €2m in add-ons for the left-back, who has been called ‘amazing’ by Erik ten Hag in the past.
