Manchester United have finally made a move for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, according to reports.
The Argentina international centre-back is a priority target for Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.
Martinez impressed under Ten Hag at Ajax last season and was named Ajax Player of the Year.
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United have made an offer of £34.5million for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.
Arsenal have already seen one offer of similar value rejected, but United could inflate the proposal with add-ons.
It is thought Ajax are holding out for a package in the region of £43million for the 24-year-old Argentina international.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United have established themselves as favorites for the Argentine amid competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Advanced negotiations are taking place between Manchester United and Ajax, with the player believed to be keen on a reunion with his former coach Erik ten Hag.
According to Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan, Manchester United are leading the race to sign Martinez because the Argentina international prefers to join Manchester United.
“Martinez is very high on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist, so I expect big developments in the 24 or 48 hours,” Van der Kraan told De Telegraaf.
“Martinez will also have his hopes pinned on United, who are an absolute top club for him.
“Ajax will really cash out for Martinez and go to €45m (£38.7m)-€50m (£43m), but that is the advantage if two clubs bid, as we saw with Lyon and Manchester United, then it suddenly goes higher.”
Martinez scored once and provided four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for Ajax last.
He has made a total of 118 appearances for Ajax since joining from Argentine club Defensa y Justica in 2019.
Martinez still has three years left on his Ajax contract which has put the Dutch champions in a strong position to negotiate a high transfer fee.
