Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag remains confident of signing Lisandro Martinez after the centre-back again told Ajax that he wants to leave, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Lisandro Martinez, who was named Ajax Player of the Year, has again made it clear again that he wants a move to the Premier League to join Manchester United or Arsenal.

Romano said: “Lisandro Martínez and his camp will be clear again with Ajax board: he only wants Premier League football.

“So he wants to make a choice between Arsenal and Man United proposals, hoping for Ajax to let him go.

“Erik ten Hag, confident on this deal – pushing again.”

Martinez has previously made it clear to Ajax that he wants a move to the Premier League this summer amid interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

He told the Ajax board including Edwin van der Sar and Klass-Jan Huntelaar, that his mind is already in the Premier League.

Manchester United and Arsenal have already submitted offers of around £38million for Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez has kept a low profile so far out of respect to Ajax and their supporters as he is a popular figure.

Martinez wants Ajax to respect what he considers the gentleman’s agreement that was put in place when he signed a contract extension that he could leave should a big club make a substantial offer for him.

Martinez is a versatile player who can play as a centre-back, left-back or defensive midfielder.
