Erik ten Hag tells Manchester United to move quickly and sign this Brazilian as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has told the Manchester United board to move quickly and sign Ajax star Antony as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo shocked Manchester United fans after it was revealed he has asked to leave the club this summer.
While Erik ten Hag will love to see Ronaldo stay at the club for another 12 months at least, the Dutch tactician is already making plans for a potential successor.
According to The Mirror, Ten Hag has made an emergency request to the Manchester United board asking for Ajax star Antony to be signed immediately.
Ten Hag intends to replace Ronaldo by signing a mobile forward that can play across the front three positions.
Antony impressed under Ten Hag at Ajax and the Manchester United boss believes the Brazilian already knows what he expects and won’t waste time to settle in at Manchester United.
Ajax are demanding £70million for Antony which the Manchester United board believes to be too expensive but Ten Hag is pushing for a deal to be done.
Ten Hag is now putting pressure on the Manchester United board to sign the Brazilian after it became clear that Ronaldo is ruthlessly engineering his exit.
Manchester United insist Ronaldo is not for sale this summer and expect Ronaldo to respect his contract but Ten Hag won’t want to keep a player who doesn’t want to stay.
Thr owner of Premier League rivals Chelsea, Todd Boehly, recently met with Ronaldo’s agent to discuss a move for the forward.
Bayern Munich are also in the frame to take Ronaldo to Germany if the Bundesliga champions lose Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.
Ronaldo wants to play in the Champions League during the twilight years of his career after spending the last 19 years playing in Europe’s top club competition.
He scored 24 goals on his return to England last season, but United finished a lowly sixth. Ronaldo feels the Europa League is beneath him.
