Manchester United have offered Ajax €40 million guaranteed, with a potential further €5 million in add-ons for centre-back Lisandro Martinez, according to The Athletic.

However, the offer from Manchester United is still below what Ajax are demanding for Lisandro Martinez.

The Athletic adds that Ajax want around €50 million guaranteed not the €40million guaranteed that Manchester United have offered.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to reunite with Lisandro Martinez at Old Trafford — the pair worked together at Ajax — and the opportunity is understood to appeal to the left-sided centre-back.

Ten Hag view Martinez as a centre-back of a different profile to rival Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Raphael Varane.

Premier League rivals Arsenal are also interested in signing Martinez and are scheduled to meet Ajax this week.

Just like Manchester United, Arsenal are also confident of signing Martinez as the centre-back is open to joining both clubs.

Martinez is reportedly pushing for a move and has told Ajax that he wants to play in the Premier League next season.

When Ajax extended his contract last October, there was an understanding that they would not stand in his way if such an opportunity arose.

Martinez has played mostly in central defence but can also play as a left-back and a defensive midfielder.

He has made 120 appearances for Ajax since arriving from Argentinian side Defensa y Justicia in 2019.
