Cristiano Ronaldo has been left “upset” he will be forced to take a pay cut at Manchester United next season, according to Samuel Luckhurst.

Cristiano Ronaldo who returned to Manchester United last summer on a contract of around £500,000 a week will now earn around £360,000 a week next season.

Ronaldo has been hit by the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League last season, triggering a pay cut of 25 per cent in his contract.

Ronaldo isn’t the only one affected, with several other members of the first-team squad also the victim of the club’s failures and seeing their pay packet reduced.

The reduction in his wages for next season has reportedly upset Ronaldo and this could be another reason why the 37 year old forward wants to leave Manchester United this summer.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo failed to report for pre-season training on Monday with the rest of his teammates.

This comes after Ronaldo told Manchester United that he wants to leave this summer.

According to The Times, Ronaldo asked to be allowed to leave Manchester United should the Red Devils receive a satisfactory offer.

The 37 year old forward reportedly wants to leave Manchester United because he wants to continue playing in the Champions League for the remainder of his career.

Ronaldo has never missed Champions League football since leaving Sporting Lisbon for Manchester United in 2003.

The 37 year old Portugal international has been part of 19 consecutive Champions League seasons.

He has never played in the Europa League, in which United will feature this season after finishing sixth in the Premier League.
