New Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia has revealed he would leave Manchester United and retire from football if he stops playing the game with enjoyment.

Malacia is referred to as the ‘smiling Dutchman’ because he always plays football with a smile on his face.

Asked if playing with a smile on his face is important to him, Tyrell Malacia told Manchester United official website: “Yeah, I think if that stops, if I don’t enjoy the game, then I don’t have to play football anymore because it’s finished.”

Malacia also hailed his dad as his hero growing up and named Brazilian legend Ronaldinho as his footballing hero.

He added: “Growing up I didn’t really have a hero. My biggest hero was my dad always for me. Not because of football but as a person.

“And when I was playing on the streets with my friends I was always looking up to Ronaldinho.”

Asked if he has a message for Manchester United fans, Tyrell Malacia added: “Hi, Manchester United fans, Tyrell here.

“I want to say thank you and I’m looking forward to playing for you and playing for this badge on my shirt. Let’s go.”

Malacia was unveiled as a Manchester United player on Tuesday after undergoing his medical on Sunday and Monday.

Manchester United signed the 22 year old left-back from Feyenoord in a deal worth €15million with €2million in add-ons.
