Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has suggested he wants Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United this summer.
Maguire ‘liked’ a post on Instagram which repeated a newspaper claim that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United because he’s being forced to accept a huge wage cut.
United’s failure to secure Champions League football means Erik Ten Hag’s squad will see their salaries reduced by 25% ahead of the new campaign.
It means Ronaldo will be more than £125,000-a-week out of pocket if he remains at United.
According to The Telegraph, Maguire has claimed the story had been “liked” purely by accident. The England international claimed he had no idea he had done it and subsequently deleted it.
Meanwhile, former Premier League midfielder Craig Burley has urged Manchester United to sell Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
Burley believes Manchester United should sell the 37 year old forward this summer.
“[Apparently] there will be a few tears shed in the Manchester United dressing room if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves… Really?” Burnley told ESPN FC.
“Trust me, the only tears shed will be from fans at the fact that half of these wannabees are at the club.
“The fact that he allegedly was a bit divisive last year on arrival at the club, I think that’s merely down to the fact that the standards were awful. I can understand that frustration.
“I think Manchester United have to get him out. He’s not the future. You can’t have a bad apple, a divisive player and one that doesn’t want to be there.
“You have new management, trying to build some new foundations. You can’t have that player. They’re going to have to find a way to get him out.
“The biggest mistake he made was walking into the club 12 months ago thinking they were moving forward.”
