According to former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, Manchester United desperately need to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice this summer.
Strengthening the midfield is a priority for new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, who wants a reunion with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
However, Jack Wilshere believes Manchester United should also be pushing to sign Declan Rice.
“I’ll tell you who you [United] need, Declan Rice,” Wilshere told talkSPORT.
When it was put to him that everyone needs Rice, Wilshere added: “Yeah, but United NEED him.”
Rice has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, although West Ham’s current stance is that the player is not for sale.
“The first thing to say is that he is not for sale,” said West Ham boss David Moyes in April.
“But if you are interested, well, it will be north of that, because £100million was cheap last summer, and £150million just now would be minimum – but he is not for sale.”
Manchester United have had a bid of £51million for Brazilian attacker Antony rejected by Dutch champions Ajax, according to Goal.
The Eredivisie side are reported to be looking for a fee of around £68m if they are to allow the 22-year-old Brazil international join Manchester United this summer.
Ajax are not desperate to sell Antony this summer and would like to keep him for a season at least unless their demands are met.
Antony’s contract at Ajax runs until 2025 and new coach Alfred Schreuder hopes that the Brazil international will remain.
