Manchester United will depart for the pre-season tour of Australia and Thailand on Friday without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to report for pre-season training, claiming family reasons, and has been given compassionate leave by Manchester United.

Manchester United don’t know when Ronaldo will report for pre-season training amid uncertainty surrounding his Manchester United future.

Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer so he can play Champions League football. He is attracting interest from several clubs including Chelsea and Napoli.

While reports claimed Manchester United are now willing to sell Ronaldo, the club insisted on Thursday that the 37 year old forward isn’t for sale.

A club spokesperson confirmed: “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United party scheduled to depart for our pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday.

“He has been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue.

“Cristiano remains under contract with Manchester United for another season and is not for sale.”

Manchester United will back up the stance that Ronaldo isn’t for sale by including images of the 37-year-old wearing the club’s new kit when it is officially unveiled on Friday morning — even though he will not be on the plane to Bangkok with his team-mates several hours later.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed he recently had a dinner with the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo but refused to reveal whether he discussed signing the Manchester United forward.

“I’m not going to talk about the players we discussed at dinner,” Laporta told reporters on Wednesday.

“It’s always interesting to talk to him and find out about certain players on the market.”
