Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand believes it is important that Manchester United invest in a new right-sided winger this summer.
Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga all prefer playing from the left wing with Manchester United currently having no player comfortable playing from the right.
Ten Hag has recognised United’s need for a new right-winger, identifying Ajax ace Antony as one of his top targets this summer.
“I think the problem position for Man United is the right-wing, because you’ve got Martial, Sancho and Rashford who all prefer playing on the left and are all more effective on the left,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five. “So, you’ve got Elanga – even he is probably better on the left-hand side as well.
“You’ve got four players there all vying for one position and they are best placed on the left, probably. I think right-wing is a position Man United have to invest in.
“They’re going to have to try get rid of Martial if they can get him out. I think they’ll let him go.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United have had a bid of £51million for Brazilian attacker Antony rejected by Dutch champions Ajax, according to Goal.
The Eredivisie side are reported to be looking for a fee of around £68m if they are to allow the 22-year-old Brazil international join Manchester United this summer.
Ajax are not desperate to sell Antony this summer and would like to keep him for a season at least unless their demands are met.
The Red Devils have been in talks to sign the Brazilian, whose agent has been in Europe since the end of the season to attempt to finalise an agreement.
Antony is a player that Erik ten Hag wants to solve Manchester United’s problems at right wing and he is beginning to get frustrated that key transfer targets are yet to be signed.
The agent of Antony are pushing Ajax to accept a lower bid from Manchester United but the Dutch side only want £68million for the Brazilian.
