Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed Harry Maguire will remain as captain of Manchester United for the 2022-23 season.

Maguire faced heavy criticism for his performances last season, with many questioning his leadership qualities.

Following Ten Hag’s appointment as Manchester United boss, there were reports claiming the Dutch tactician will appoint a new captain.

However, Ten Hag clarified on Monday that the England international would continue as the captain of Manchester United.

“Harry Maguire is the captain,” Ten Hag said at a press conference on Monday.

“Of course, I have to get to know all the players and it takes time, but he is an established captain for a few years and he has achieved a lot of success, so I don’t doubt about this issue.”

Meanwhile, Man United boss Erik ten Hag wants Man United to increase offers for Lisandro Martínez and Antony, according to The Times.

Ten Hag worked with both players at Ajax and is keen on reuniting with both players at Man United.

Man United have already offered €50 million (about £42.3 million) for Martínez, the 24-year-old Argentina centre back, who is also being pursued by Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Red Devils have also offered €60million for 22 year old Brazilian forward Antony.

Ajax reportedly want to sell both players for €125million and would prefer to secure replacements for them before agreeing to either deal.

Both players are reportedly keen on joining Manchester United and are pushing for their moves to go through.
