Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag sends warning to Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has warned Cristiano Ronaldo that he’s not for sale despite the forward’s desire to leave the club this summer.
Ronaldo is currently not part of the Manchester United squad in the pre-season tour of Thailand.
Ten Hag said of Ronaldo ahead of Manchester United’s game against Liverpool on Tuesday: “He’s not with us, it’s due to personal issues.
“We are planning with Cristiano Ronaldo for this season. I’m looking forward to working with him.
“He hasn’t told me he wants to leave. I have read but what I say, Cristiano is not for sale. He is in our plans and we want to have success together.”
Ten Hag revealed he has not spoken to Ronaldo since news of his desire to leave United became public.
The Dutchman added: “I spoke with him before this issue came up. I had a conversation with him and a real good talk.
“That is between Cristiano and me. Only what I can confirm is that we had a really good conversation together.”
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season but Manchester United could only finish sixth, missing out on Champions League football this season.
A lack of Champions League football this coming season, and the determination to fight for trophies, is thought to be part of the reasoning behind his desire to leave.
