With a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong failing to progress, Manchester United are now reportedly prepared to look at other alternatives.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United have identified Premier League midfielders Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans as ideal alternatives to De Jong.
The Red Devils have been linked with Wolves midfielder Neves and Leicester midfielder Tielemans in the past and are now reportedly ready to step up interest in signing any of them.
With Erik ten Hag keen on adding more graft and guile to the Old Trafford engine room, the Red Devils are now looking to sign Neves or Tielemans following the lack of progress in signing De Jong from Barcelona.
According to reports in Spain, De Jong will not join Man United this season because of personal and sporting reasons.
Spanish media outlet Sport claim De Jong has his heart set on staying at Barcelona and is not interested in a move to Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Denmark international Christian Eriksen is set to undergo his Manchester United medical shortly and join United’s pre-season tour, according to ESPN.
Eriksen has verbally agreed a three-year contract with Manchester United but was not part of the squad which left for the tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday.
