Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly hoping to make a breakthrough in the Blues slow transfer business by urging the Chelsea board to sign Manchester United transfer target and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, according to The Express.
The West Ham midfielder is a transfer target for Manchester United but due to his £150million value, the Red Devils aren’t willing to make a move for the midfielder this summer.
Manchester United have instead focused on signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
Chelsea boss Tuchel reportedly considered hijacking Manchester United’s move for De Jong, but the Blues are behind Manchester United. That is leading Tuchel to look at other targets, one of whom is Rice.
It is expected Manchester United would make a move for Rice next summer and Chelsea are considering beating Manchester United to his signing by making a move for the midfielder this summer.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes will be Manchester United’s No.8 next season, picking up the baton from Juan Mata.
Bruno had worn the No.18 shirt since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in 2020 but has now picked up the No.8 shirt following the exit of Mata this summer.
“That shirt means a lot [to me],” Bruno Fernandes told MUTV. “There is a history behind that [number] because my father, when he used to be a player, he was playing with a number eight.
“He quit from football because he had an offer from work, and obviously at that time for me and my brothers and for all the family it was better that he had proper work than [to] keep playing football.
“[The number eight] is the number he was using for two years. Because it was also his dream [to be a footballer], it makes my dream a little bit of him.”
