Gary Neville has reacted to Erik ten Hag’s decision to comfirm Harry Maguire as Manchester United captain.

Ten Hag made the announcement during his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s first pre-season friendly of the summer against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Ten Hag said: ” Harry Maguire is the captain. I have to get to know all the players, but he’s an established captain and he has achieved a lot of success.”

Ten Hag’s decision to stick with Harry Maguire as Manchester United captain was not well received by a large number of United supporters online, who were desperate to see a changing of the guard.

However, Ten Hag’s decision has been given the seal of approval by Neville, who took to social media to react to the announcement.

Gary Neville said: “Good! So the same Manchester United fans fuming with me for applauding the decision to keep Maguire as captain seem to be without knowing criticising the new manager for his decision.

“Maybe support Maguire and stop bullying him on here (Twitter). The new manager obviously likes him.”

Bruno Fernandes will be Manchester United’s No.8 next season, picking up the baton from Juan Mata.

“That shirt means a lot [to me],” Bruno Fernandes told MUTV. “There is a history behind that [number] because my father, when he used to be a player, he was playing with a number eight.

“He quit from football because he had an offer from work, and obviously at that time for me and my brothers and for all the family it was better that he had proper work than [to] keep playing football.

“[The number eight] is the number he was using for two years. Because it was also his dream [to be a footballer], it makes my dream a little bit of him.”
