Erik ten Hag looking to build his team around this Manchester United star
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly looking to build his team around Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Ajax boss remains keen on building his Manchester United team around Cristiano Ronaldo despite the forward’s desire to leave the club this summer.
The Red Devils’ failure to secure Champions League football last season, along with United’s floundering in the transfer market, is said to have led to Ronaldo wanting to leave the club.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed Ten Hag wants to keep Ronaldo at Old Trafford and believes he would be the star of his Manchester United team.
“Ten Hag is now waiting to have another talk with Cristiano to try to change his mind,” Romano wrote.
“Whatever some people have speculated about how the former Real Madrid man might fit into Ten Hag’s tactics, the truth is he wants at all costs to have him in his team for next year.
“Ten Hag still considers Ronaldo a world class player and he would certainly be the star of his Manchester United team in 2022/2023. The manager believes that Ronaldo can be perfect for his tactical approach.”
Ten Hag also revealed recently that Ronaldo isn’t for sale.
“We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it,” Ten Hag said.
“I’m looking forward to working with him. I have read [that he wants to leave], but what I say is Cristiano is not for sale, he is in our plans and we want success together.
“I spoke with him before this issue came up, I had a conversation with him and I had a good talk. That is between Cristiano and me. What I can confirm is we had a really good conversation together.”
