Manchester United have reportedly told Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to make up his mind over an Old Trafford transfer by the end of the week, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils have reportedly warned the Barcelona midfielder that the club will move on to other targets if he fails to make a decision this week.
Manchester United have been in negotiations with Barcelona for a number of weeks now, and while a deal in principle has been agreed, De Jong is reportedly not interested in moving to Old Trafford.
Barcelona are open selling De Jong to the Red Devils this summer but the player himself has indicated that his preference is to stay at the Nou Camp.
Another stumbling block delaying De Jong’s transfer to Manchester United is the £17m wages owed to the player from a deferment agreement amid the Covid-19 pandemic — an issue that is out of United’s control.
Manchester United have made it known during negotiations that the Red Devils are unwilling to cover that debt.
Meanwhile, the agent of De Jong has told Man United that the midfielder has no interest in joining the Red Devils this summer, according to The Guardian.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been keen on signing De Jong this summer but will now have to consider other alternatives.
According to The Guardian, De Jong’s agents, Ali Dursun and Hasan Cetinkaya, made clear to Barcelona that the midfielder is not seeking a move and is also not open to reducing his salary.
