Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on the performance of Eric Bailly in the 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool on Tuesday.

Bailly was solid defensively against Liverpool and also played a key role in United’s fourth goal against Liverpool.

The game against Liverpool on Tuesday was Bailly’s first Manchester United appearance in 2022, last playing for the club in the 3-1 win over Burnley at Old Trafford back in December

The Ivory Coast international dropped to fifth in the pecking order for a place at centre-back last season, with Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones all ahead of him.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted the impressive performance of Eric Bailly against Liverpool has not given him a selection headache.

“No, it doesn’t give me a headache,” said Ten Hag, speaking to the media ahead of Friday’s friendly against Melbourne Victory.

“I am happy. We need a full squad with a lot of competition because there are lot of games.

“In the middle [of the season] there is a World Cup. We need a full squad with a lot of competition between the players. We need to push them to a higher level.”

According to The Mirror, Manchester United will sell at least three players following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax this summer.

The report claims Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones will all be sold “to ensure Erik ten Hag’s squad is not overloaded with centre-backs” next season.
