Premier League rivals Liverpool are in talks to sign Ajax winger Antony ahead of Manchester United, according to reports in Brazil.
Erik ten Hag has made the 22 year old Brazilian a priority signing but Manchester United have so far failed to reach an agreement with Dutch champions Ajax.
Despite Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claiming they won’t sign another player this summer, reports from Brazil are now claiming Liverpool are interested in signing Manchester United transfer target Antony.
According to Yahoo Esportes via Metro, Liverpool have held discussions with both Ajax and Antony’s agent over a potential deal this summer.
Ajax are reportedly demanding a fee of £68million for Antony but Liverpool believe £59million would be enough to sign the talented Brazilian winger.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have had a bid of £51million for Antony rejected by Dutch champions Ajax, according to Goal.
Ajax are not desperate to sell Antony this summer and would like to keep him for a season at least unless their demands are met.
The Red Devils have been in talks to sign the Brazilian, whose agent has been in Europe since the end of the season to attempt to finalise an agreement.
Antony is a player that Erik ten Hag wants to solve Manchester United’s problems at right wing and he is beginning to get frustrated that key transfer targets are yet to be signed.
The agent of Antony are pushing Ajax to accept a lower bid from Manchester United but the Dutch side only want £68million for the Brazilian.
Antony’s contract at Ajax runs until 2025 and new coach Alfred Schreuder hopes that the Brazil international will remain.
Antony is keen on reuniting with Ten Hag at Manchester United but is aware that negotiations are difficult.
The former Sao Paulo attacker joined the Dutch team in 2020 and has made 78 appearances in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and making 19 assists.
