Manchester United board have urged Erik ten Hag to find a role for Anthony Martial at Old Trafford this season, according to talkSPORT.

Ten Hag has been reportedly told that using Martial next season could help the club save millions which can be used to strengthen other areas of the squad that require attention.

Martial scored just once for Manchester United last season before joining Sevilla on loan in January for the remainder of the season.

However, Martial didn’t fare any better in Spain and he managed to find the net just once for the La Liga club, who decided against signing him on a permanent basis.

Martial seems to be back to his best after he was named Man of the Match in Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over Liverpool on Tuesday.

Ten Hag had been keen on signing Ajax forward Antony this summer but Manchester United are unwilling to pay £68million for the Brazilian.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans believe Anthony Martial can effectively replace Cristiano Ronaldo next season following his man of the match performance in the 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool.

Martial’s goal in the 4-0 victory over Liverpool capped a fine performance for the attacker in which he pressed the Liverpool defence and caused a constant nuisance with his movement.

Martial’s display had supporters on the edge of their seats throughout the first half, and fans believe he can replace Cristiano Ronaldo next season.
