Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has revealed Erik ten Hag wants more players in the opposition box, as the new manager looks to make the Red Devils a much more threatening side.

The Dutchman is enjoying a very encouraging start to his tenure as United boss, with a 4-0 victory over Liverpool and a 4-1 victory over Melbourne Victory.

Scott McTominay, who scored United’s first goal against Melbourne Victory, has revealed Ten Hag wants him and his teammates to get forward more and make their presence felt in the penalty area.

“It’s cutbacks, it’s getting in the box, all of us, not just myself. I know I can score more goals and it’s all the players,” McTominay told Manchester United club media after the win in Melbourne.

“The manager wants more players in the box, which is where you score goals and that’s the most important thing.

“For us, the level of detail which he’s talking about is so easy to understand as well and that’s probably one of the most benefitting things in terms of pre-season, because all of his ideas can come at once and we can take them on board as well.”
