£71.5million player prefers to join Chelsea instead of Manchester United
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has no interest in joining Manchester United because he dislikes the city and believes the club is run erratically, according to Spanish media outlet Sport via Daily Mail.
The Red Devils have reached an agreement with Barcelona to sign the Dutch midfielder for £71.5million but issues surrounding a sum of £17m in deferred wages and bonuses owed to the midfielder has stalled any move.
The report claims De Jong isn’t keen on joining Manchester United and would prefer a move to Chelsea or Bayern Munich if he is forced out of Barcelona.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made signing De Jong, his former player at Ajax, a top priority this summer.
However, the midfielder isn’t keen on making the move to Manchester United due to a lack of Champions League football and also because he doesn’t like the city of Manchester.
De Jong reportedly view London as a more attractive city to leave in than Manchester and would be reportedly open to joining Chelsea.
Bayern Munich is another landing spot that would appeal to De Jong, it is claimed. His former team-mate and close friend Matthijs de Ligt has just joined the Bundesliga outfit on a deal until 2027.
Manchester United will reportedly not give up on signing De Jong this summer.
