Ten Hag reveals what he intends to do if Frenkie de Jong snubs Manchester United transfer

Ten Hag De Jong

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has given an update on the club’s pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, while also revealing what he intends to do if De Jong snubs a move to Manchester United.

Ten Hag is happy with his current squad if they do not finalise a deal for De Jong as he looks to guide them back into the Champions League spots.

“We want Frenkie? I don’t know,” Ten Hag told reporters on Friday. “No, hey, it’s about the right players and there are many.

“But I cannot give comments on a player who is under contract at another club. When we have news, we will give it.”

When quizzed what will happen if De Jong does not join United, Ten Hag added: “Then you work with the current squad, and you develop players who are in your current squad.

“In this moment we have players in that position and they perform really well.

“That would be a good situation [to have transfer business done], but I am happy with the squad.

“‘I am happy with the signings up until now. We are working altogether. I am happy with the current squad and we need the right players.”
