According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Barcelona and Manchester United are in talks for a swap deal involving Sergino Dest and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka is now behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order at Manchester United while Dest is also not in Xavi Hernandez’s plans for the season, with the American yet to make an appearance for Barcelona this season.

Dest played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax before his move to Barcelona and the Manchester United boss is reportedly open to reuniting with the right-back at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Cristiano Ronaldo should have started against Southampton.

“I thought watching the game today, I thought they needed Cristiano,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“I thought they really lacked a focal point centrally and Cristiano is more of a focal point. When you get to 37 years of age you’re not going to be sprinting away, he is very good at holding the ball up and getting on the end of crosses whereas Marcus [Rashford] is totally different.

“There will be different times when different players will be needed.”
