Man United twice rejected chance to hire this £12million-per-year manager before hiring Erik ten Hag
Manchester United twice rejected the chance to bring Graham Potter to Old Trafford, according to The Athletic via The Sun.
Potter was announced as new Chelsea head coach yesterday after Thomas Tuchel was ruthlessly sacked by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.
Things could have been different for Potter as Manchester United were twice encouraged to move for Potter, once when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, and again while searching for a permanent replacement during Ralf Rangnick’s turbulent tenure.
However, the Red Devils turned down the chance to hold talks with Potter on both occasions due to his lack of Champions League experience.
Potter led Brighton to a ninth-place finish last season, and has left them currently in fourth after six games but the Red Devils felt that wasn’t enough as the board needed a manager with Champions League experience.
Potter’s lack of Champions League experience was not a problem for Chelsea as the Blues were impressed with his Premier League experience.
Manchester United ended up hiring Erik ten Hag, who had an impressive Champions League experience but lacked Premier League experience.
