Why Ten Hag was right to bench Ronaldo against Man City – Carragher

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was right to bench Cristiano Ronaldo against Manchester City on Sunday.

Manchester United lost 6-3 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with the scoreline 4-0 at half-time.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute against Manchester City and many have criticised Ten Hag for disrespecting the Manchester United forward.

However, Carragher has laughed off the idea that Ten Hag was wrong for not playing Ronaldo against Manchester City.

Carragher tweeted: “The idea that (Erik ten Hag) got it wrong yesterday by not playing Ronaldo is laughable! Ronaldo played at Brentford when it was 4-0 at ht!!

“It’s not a dig at CR, but Rashford’s pace on the counter attack as we saw v Arsenal/Liverpool was 100% the best option.”
