Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has claimed he isn’t surprised Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves turned down a move to Manchester United.
According to McAvennie, Manchester United aren’t the club we used to be and won’t win anything. McAvennie claims any “big” payer will turn down a move to Old Trafford at the moment.
When asked if he was surprised Neves turned down a move to the Red Devils, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No. I think a lot of people will be turning down a move.
“Ten Hag has done something with them but they are not the team they used to be that is for sure. I do not care what anyone says, the team they have just now are not going to win anything.
“Pushing for European spots this year will be good for Man United. I know that sounds crazy but just pushing for a European spot is a lot better than where I thought they would be at the end of the season.
“They were on a slippery slope but he has turned it round. The big players are not going to go there. The big players want Champions League and it looks like Man United will not get that next year either. So why would you want to sign? They are a massive club, one of the biggest clubs in the world and it is a shame they have not got it right.“
Neves currently has two years left on his contract at the Molineux and has been linked with a move to Barcelona next summer.
