Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has given the clearest indication yet that he tried to sign Christian Eriksen before the midfielder opted to join Manchester United.
Conte admitted Eriksen is a player that he will love train again and to have in his Tottenham Hotspur squad.
Asked whether Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign Eriksen, Conte responded: “I think you know I don’t want to speak about players of other teams.
“For sure Christian is a player I enjoyed working with and he’s a player I would like to train again, to have him in my squad.
“But you know very well the transfer market is very difficult and I think he made a big choice to go to United, to sign a three-year contract.
“For him I wish him the best, for his family, apart from the game against us and for the rest of the season to be the best on the pitch.”
Probed further on how close Spurs came to landing Eriksen, Conte added: “Now is not important to say yes or no, but for sure Christian was a player that every club tried to bring into their team.”
