Manchester United defender Raphael Varane suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The 29 year old picked up the injury after falling awkwardly in a challenge with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and there were fears he could miss the World Cup.
However, a source close to Varane told AFP on Sunday that the Manchester United defender is less seriously injured than feared and still hopes to make the World Cup.
A scan on Varane’s injury on Sunday showed he has a small hamstring tear but it is “less serious than feared” and he can “still have hope” of going to Qatar.
Varane, who has suffered several long-term injury absences during his career, is expected to be out for between three and four weeks, according to reports in France.
